MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN BAHASA INGGRIS CALON GURU MADRASAH IBTIDAIYYAH DI ERA REVOLUSI INDUSTRI 4.0 MELALUI PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

Abstract

In the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, students starting from Elementary education to higher education need to be enhanced by 4Cs skills including critical thinking abilities, creative thinking abilities, communicating abilities and collaborative abilities in order to face challenges and solve problems. Therefore, educators play an essential role in producing better future generations in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. The purpose of this study is to explain the perceptions of the students in the department of Islamic elementary education (PGMI) at IAIN Kudus as the candidate of teachers regarding the importance of integrating higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in English learning through a project-based learning model, one of them by making video projects of teaching English in elementary school. This study employed a qualitative method with an approach to descriptive analysis. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with students and documentation. The results of the study showed that most students in the department of Islamic elementary education (PGMI) at IAIN Kudus agree that the project of making videos in teaching English at elementary schools can encourage them in learning English especially in speaking English. They feel more confident when teaching English after making a video project. Moreover, the project of making videos can promote their creative and critical thinking skills in learning English.

 

Abstrak

Di era revolusi industri 4.0, peserta didik dari jenjang pendidikan dasar sampai pendidikan tinggi perlu dibekali dengan 4Cs skills diantaranya kemampuan berpikir kritis (critical thinking), kemampuan berpikir kreatif (creative thinking), kemampuan berkomunikasi (communicating) dan kemampuan berkolaborasi (collaborating) agar mampu menghadapi tantangan dan menyelesaikan segala persoalan.Oleh karena itu, para pendidik memiliki peran penting dalam mencetak generasi unggul di era revolusi industry 4.0. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan tentang persepsi calon guru Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah yakni mahasiswa Program Studi PGMI di IAIN Kudus mengenai pentingnya mengintegrasikan higher order thinking skills (HOTS) dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris melalui model pembelajaran berbasis projek (project-based learning) salah satunya dengan membuat projek video mengajar bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan pada analisis deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi struktur kepada mahasiswa dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa Prodi PGMI berpendapat bahwa projek membuat video mengajar bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar dapat mendorong mereka dalam belajar bahasa Inggris khususnya dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris, mahasiswa merasa rasa percaya diri mereka menjadi semakin terlatih ketika mencoba mengajar di sekolah dasar setelah membuat projek video. Lebih dari itu, projek membuat video juga dapat mengasah kreatifitas dan kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris.
